Origin and world of the character
The character of Man Ray comes from the famous American animated series SpongeBobSquarePants, created by Stephen Hillenburg in 1999 for Nickelodeon. Evolving at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean in the aquatic city of Bikini Bottom, he is introduced as the historic arch-enemy of retired local superheroes Mermaid Man and Hermit Bernard. A stingray helmet-wearing humanoid with devastating electrical powers, he is a witty parody of traditional comic book villains. His recurring attempts to dominate the ocean or do evil deeds systematically come up against the disarming naivety of Sponge Bob and Patrick Star, often turning his Machiavellian plans into slapstick situations.
