Detective Conan: One of the best-selling manga in the world

A nod to the great detectives of the last century and their writers, Detective Conan aka "Meitantei Konan" is a Japanese manga and anime series created by Gōshō Aoyama. The manga made its debut in January 1994 in the weekly magazine Weekly Shōnen Sunday before being released by Shōgakukan. The French version has been published by Kana since 1997. In 2022, there were already more than 100 volumes and 1000 animated episodes. A success that explains this longevity... And the story is not over yet!

The complete universe of Detective Conan can be found in our geek shop. Mangas, figurines and other goodies are waiting for you!

The reference detective manga

The manga plunges us into the daily life of Shinichi Kudo, a young 17 year-old budding detective who regularly collaborates with the police. During an investigation, Shinichi is forced to ingest a strange drug that transforms him into a 6-7 year old boy. But the effect of the poison does not seem to wear off...

With his parents living abroad, our hero turns to his friend Professor Agasa who invites him, for safety's sake, to change his identity while he finds a solution to this "big problem". This is how Conan Edogawa was born; with a certain homage to Sir Conan Doyle and Rampo Edogawa.

Lodged with his childhood friend Ran Mouri and his father Kogoro, a private detective, Conan will have to use his ingenuity to hide his identity and find his body. To do this, he will first have to get hold of the organisation responsible for his physical condition.

The story is divided into several series of chapters dedicated to criminal cases that Conan must solve like any good detective. Like Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot, each crime is solved in the presence of the various characters and it is very regular that the readers are also surprised by the announcement of the culprit and the clues, collected during the various chapters of the investigation, which led him to this conclusion. Too young to be listened to by adults, Conan uses Kogoro to express himself. He has the annoying tendency to put him to sleep and to imitate his voice thanks to a gadget bow tie given to him by Professor Agasa.

Beyond these investigations, Conan's main objective is to find the "Organization of Men in Black". His quest to find his body will also be punctuated by his evolving relationship with Ran Mouri.

Ingenuity with Professor Agasa

Hiroshi Agasa is a professor and inventor close to the family of Conan Edogawa aka Shinichi Kudo. He is the first to be informed of Conan's secret and becomes his best ally for his investigations as well as for hiding his identity.

You'll find many reviews on the web comparing Agasa to Doc from ' Back to the Future ' or Agent Q in James Bond; those quirky characters who provide their hero with particularly creative gadgets! And these opinions are quite true. A voice-transforming bow tie, a watch with soporific projectiles, a solar-powered skateboard, fortifying shoes... Agasa's imagination knows no bounds to support his detective friend and help him solve any mystery. "Agasa" is a tribute to the famous detective writer Agatha Christie.

Romance and rivalry with the Mouri family

Every good book has its moment of romance. Ran Mouri and Shinichi Kudo have known each other since childhood and their feelings evolve as the story progresses. Ran is a martial arts expert and regional karate champion. She has an explosive temperament and is also very sensitive. She is regularly involved in the investigations of her father Kogoro Mouri and Conan. Her name is inspired by Maurice Leblanc, writer of Arsène Lupin.

Kogoro Mouri is a former policeman turned private detective. Not very good at making connections between clues, Conan's presence will help him enormously to regain confidence and improve his reputation. However, Kogoro hates Shinichi who, despite his young age, is already a star and intervenes in many cases. He is an expert in judo and was considered the best marksman in the police force.

Riddles with the Men in Black Organization

The Men in Black are the main antagonists of the Detective Conan shonen. A secret organisation whose real name is not known to many, it is specialised in theft, blackmail, espionage and assassinations. Nothing very cheerful! Its members all have a code name taken from a name of alcohol. We meet Gin and Vodka in one of the first chapters of the manga. They force Shinichi to take the drug called "Apoxitine 4869" developed by the Organization. As the story progresses, we can only expect one thing: that the puzzles and cases solved by Conan Edogawa will bring him a little closer to the remedy
