Jurassic Park: The must-see saga of the 90s

When you think of Jurassic Park, you obviously think of the series of films in which dinosaurs come back to life. It has been almost 30 years since the saga began. The first Jurassic Park was released in 1993 and became the highest grossing film in history (until Titanic came out). Since then, 5 other films have been released to complete the myth. A look back at the cult dinosaur saga!

Jurassic Park (1993)

Directed by Steven Spielberg, the first Jurassic Park is undoubtedly one of the classics of our geek shop. Few know it but before being a movie, Jurassic Park was first a book. The story came straight from the imagination of science fiction author Michael Chrichton. Spielberg and Chrichton worked closely together to adapt the script before Universal bought the rights for $2 million.

The final project features billionaire John Hammond, who, surrounded by scientists, manages to clone dinosaurs using the technique of DNA extraction. This incredible discovery leads to the creation of a theme park populated by ferocious creatures on Isla Nublar, an island off the coast of Costa Rica. Before the opening, Hammond takes Alan and Ellie, two experienced palaeontologists, on a tour of the complex to get their approval for the project. But during their visit, the security system breaks down and the famous T-Rex and other dinosaurs escape...

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)

The second instalment of the dino saga was released four years later with Spielberg returning to direct.

Until then, John Hammond had managed to keep the existence of a second island a secret. But as he tries to maintain control of his company InGen, his nephew Peter Ludlow ousts him from the board and decides to bring the dinosaurs back to the mainland from Isla Sorna. Hammond has only one thing in mind: to go against Ludlow's plans. The billionaire calls on Ian Malcolm who will be accompanied by a new team to avoid any malicious intrusion on the island...

Jurassic Park III (2001)

Four years pass before Jurassic Park III hits the theatres.

In the third part of the saga, palaeontologist Alan Grant makes his comeback. Still scarred by the incident that led to the ruin of Jurassic Park, Grant vowed never to go near a dinosaur again. But he continued to research the intelligence of Velociraptors. In search of funding for his project, he was approached by the Kirby couple. Paul and Amanda offer to fund his entire research in exchange for an aerial expedition from Isla Sorna. Grant soon discovers that the couple's intention is to land on the island to search for their son who disappeared a few weeks earlier. The adventure takes a completely different turn when their plane crashes in the middle of the jungle, leaving everyone at the mercy of the dinosaurs...

Jurassic World (2015)

The Jurassic Park legend lay dormant for almost 14 years. Directed by Colin Trevorrow, the 2015 film Jurassic World relaunches the saga. The script tells us that the company InGen was bought by Simon Masrani in 1997 to create its own theme park, Jurassic World. Built on Isla Nublar, the new complex welcomes thousands of visitors every day. But to increase attendance and make more money, the directors instructed the geneticists to invent new species of dinosaurs. They create the Indominus Rex, a hybrid genetically modified from the DNA of several species. Things go wrong when this creature manages to escape from its enclosure to wreak havoc on the island...

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)

Fallen Kingdom comes out three years after Jurassic World. Directed by JA Bayona, the film shows us that the dinosaurs have taken over Isla Nubar. After the disaster of Jurassic World, they continued to live peacefully without any humans on the island. But a volcanic eruption will disrupt their tranquillity and threaten their existence. Claire Dearing is on a mission to save the dinosaurs and get them to live on a new island with the help of Sir Benjamin Lockwood, an old friend and former colleague of billionaire John Hammond. Claire is well aware that in order to do this, she must be accompanied by Owen Grady, the former trainer of the Velociraptors. The duo goes to the island accompanied by the military, Franklin Webb (a computer specialist) and Zia Rodriguez (a paleo-veterinarian). The whole team soon realizes that they have been double-crossed by Lockwood's partner, who wants to take over the creatures...

Jurassic Word: The Next World (2022)

Four years after the destruction of Isla Nublar, dinosaurs are in complete freedom in the world and now cohabit with humanity. Claire Dearing and Owen Grady have isolated themselves from the general population to protect Maisie Lockwood, the granddaughter of Sir Benjamin Lockwood. But everything takes a different turn when Owen's Velociraptor Blue introduces them to his offspring and a giant creature threatens the survival of the planet...
