Master the art of assassination and challenge your enemies in style!

The gameplay mechanics of Assassin's Creed are centred on the art of assassination. Players take on the role of an Assassin, a master of the shadows and stealth, who slips into the shadows, climbs walls, uses a variety of weapons and employs his assassin's skills to eliminate his targets with style and efficiency. Assassins also have special vision, known as "eagle vision", which enables them to spot enemies, objects and hiding places throughout the game's complex environments. There's also exploration, intense combat and a progression and customisation system.

Iconic characters

The wealth of characters that populate the Assassin's Creed universe is another key element of this franchise. From assassins to Templars and historical figures, the characters in Assassin's Creed are deeply developed and unforgettable. Players have the opportunity to embody charismatic assassins such as Ezio Auditore, Bayek, Aya, Edward Kenway, and many others, each with their own story, unique personality and distinct motivations.

The complex relationships between the characters, their friendships, betrayals, loves and struggles for freedom are at the heart of Assassin's Creed's plot, adding emotional depth to the game's story. Players can often feel emotionally invested in the adventures of these characters, creating a strong bond with the game world.

An uninspired film

Like all great franchises, Assassin's Creed has seen its story adapted for the big screen. The film is directed by Justin Kurzel and stars Michael Fassbender in the lead role. The story follows Callum Lynch, a man sentenced to death, who is recruited by a mysterious organisation called Abstergo Industries to relive the memories of his ancestor, Aguilar de Nerha, a 15th century Spanish assassin, using a revolutionary technology called the Animus.

Callum is plunged into Aguilar's memories and discovers that he is part of an ancient brotherhood of assassins fighting against the Knights Templar, a corrupt organisation seeking absolute power. As Callum explores Aguilar's memories, he uncovers secrets about his own past, as well as the motivations of Abstergo Industries and the Knights Templar.

Unfortunately, the film didn't make much of an impact. It was criticised for having too complex a script, a pace that was far too slow and mixed performances from the actors. Above all, the film was a real disappointment for fans who were expecting a more faithful treatment of the universe they knew so well.

Fortunately, die-hard fans can count on a wealth of merchandising to prolong their experience. All these works, books of geek literature and many goodies such as figurines are available from ShopforGeek.
