Origin and backstory of the character (Lore)

Flash McQueen, known as Lightning McQueen in the original version, is the main protagonist of the animated Cars series by Pixar Animation Studios. An extremely talented racing driver, he wears the number 95, a nod to the year 1995, when Pixar’s first feature film, Toy Story, was released.

At the start of his story, Flash is an ambitious young racer primarily concerned with victory and fame. However, an unexpected detour takes him to Radiator Springs, a small town on Route 66, where he meets Martin, Sally Carrera and Doc Hudson, amongst others.

This experience profoundly changes his outlook on competition. Flash gradually discovers the importance of friendship, respect and helping one another, whilst continuing his career in the biggest motor races.

With his red bodywork, his number 95 and his catchphrase ‘Ka-chow!’, Flash McQueen has become one of the most iconic characters in the Disney·Pixar universe and a key figure in the Cars franchise.
