Character background and universe (Lore)

Aki Hayakawa is a Devil Hunter in Public Security’s Special Section 4 and works directly under Makima’s command. The official website for Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc also describes him as a veteran with three years’ more service than Denji.

Unlike Denji’s impulsive temperament or Power’s exuberance, Aki stands out for his seriousness, discipline and methodical approach to the Devil Hunter’s trade.

His motivation is deeply personal. Aki harbours an intense hatred for the Gun Devil, who is responsible for a trauma that drove him to devote his life to hunting devils. This obsession also explains his initially very rigid attitude towards those who do not take their mission seriously enough.

To fight, Aki enters into several contracts with devils. During the Reze Arc, the official website confirmed, in particular, her contracts with the Curse Devil and the Future Devil.

The contract with the Future Devil plays a particularly important role in his fighting style. It allows him to gain an extremely brief glimpse of what is about to happen, giving Aki the ability to anticipate certain enemy attacks despite the human limitations of his physical abilities.

Aki also shares a very significant bond with Denji and Power. Whilst he initially regards them as irresponsible and difficult to put up with, their life together gradually transforms their relationship into something that increasingly resembles a makeshift family.

This development contributes greatly to the character’s depth. Behind his cold demeanour lies a man who is deeply attached to those around him, even though he rarely expresses his feelings directly.

In *Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc*, Aki remains a member of Special Unit 4 whilst Denji meets Reze, a young girl he encounters by chance in the rain. The film explores this new phase of the story whilst continuing to follow the Public Safety Bureau’s missions and the threats surrounding Chainsaw Man.
