Songbird, whose real name is Song So-mi, is an elite Korean-born netrunner and the New United States of America's (NUSA) top cyber espionage analyst. Acting as President Rosalind Myers's right-hand woman, her extraordinary powers of intrusion enable her to break through the Blackwall, the security barrier protecting the network from savage artificial intelligences. The plot thickens when the presidential shuttle Space Force One is shot down over the Dogtown district of Night City. Songbird then contacts protagonist V, promising him a cure for the cellular degradation caused by the Relic in exchange for his assistance in rescuing the President and extracting the sensitive data in her possession.
