Superman is an American comic book superhero belonging to the imaginary world of the DC Universe. This fictional character is considered an American cultural icon.
Created in January 1933 by American writer Jerry Siegel and Canadian artist Joe Shuster while they were both living in Cleveland, the character was sold to Detective Comics. He first appeared in an Action Comics in June 1938. The character went on to appear in several radio plays, television programmes, films, comic strips and video games.
