Origin and character background (Lore)

Goku, also known by his Saiyan name Kakarot, is the main character in Dragon Ball, a series created by Akira Toriyama. Sent to Earth whilst still a baby, he is taken in and raised by Son Gohan, who teaches him the basics of martial arts.

Throughout his adventures, Goku discovers his extraterrestrial origins and learns that he belongs to the warrior race of the Saiyans. His constant quest to surpass himself enables him to reach ever-higher levels of power and to master several now-iconic transformations, notably the Super Saiyan.

Goku battles numerous major adversaries alongside characters such as Vegeta, Piccolo, Gohan, Krillin and Bulma, whilst remaining driven by his love of combat and his desire to improve.
