Origin and backstory of the characters (Lore)

The meeting between Son Goku and Bulma quite simply marks the beginning of the Dragon Ball story.

At the start of the series, Goku is still a young boy living alone in the mountains. Endowed with exceptional strength and sporting a mysterious monkey tail, he leads an isolated existence until the day he meets Bulma, a brilliant teenager with a passion for technology.

Bulma is searching for the legendary Dragon Balls, seven mystical orbs which, when gathered together, allow the dragon Shenron to be summoned and a wish to be granted. Using the Dragon Radar she designed herself, she embarks on a long journey to find them all.

Goku happens to possess one of these Dragon Balls: the four-star ball that belonged to his adoptive grandfather, Son Gohan. After they meet, he decides to accompany Bulma on her adventure.

Their journey marks the start of a long series of encounters, battles and discoveries. It is during this quest that Goku meets, amongst others, Oolong, Yamcha, Master Roshi and many other characters who will become central to the Dragon Ball universe.

Bulma also holds a special place in the series thanks to her intelligence and talent as an inventor. As a member of the family behind Capsule Corporation, she regularly uses futuristic vehicles and devices that can be stored in the company’s famous miniature capsules.
