Player’s origins and career

Fermín López Marín, born on 11 May 2003 in El Campillo, Andalusia, is a Spanish midfielder who came through the ranks at La Masia, FC Barcelona’s youth academy. He joined Barça’s academy in 2016 after spells with Recreativo de Huelva and Real Betis.

After progressing through the youth ranks, Fermín was loaned to Linares Deportivo for the 2022/23 season to gain first-team experience. There, he scored 12 goals and provided four assists – performances that earned him a return to Barcelona and a gradual integration into the first team.

During pre-season for the 2023/24 season, he particularly caught the eye in a friendly Clásico against Real Madrid, before establishing himself as a permanent fixture in Barça’s first-team squad. He officially became a first-team player in 2024.

His playing style is characterised in particular by his ability to drive into the box and score from midfield. He gradually established himself as one of the most promising attacking players of his generation at FC Barcelona. His contract with the club has, in fact, been extended until 2031.

Fermín also enjoyed a particularly significant 2024 with the Spanish national team. He made his debut for the senior national side in a friendly against Andorra and was part of the squad that won Euro 2024.

A few weeks later, he represented Spain at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. He scored six goals there, finishing as Spain’s top scorer in the tournament and playing a major role in the team’s victory to win the Olympic gold medal.
