In the Sanrio universe, Kuromi is a small black creature wearing a jester’s hat, created in 2005 as My Melody’s self-proclaimed rival. Behind her rebellious appearance and punk-rock attitude lies a character with a big heart, who is ambitious and mischievous, and who has established herself as one of the franchise’s most popular characters amongst teenage and adult audiences.

This kimono-clad figurine is part of the celebrations marking Kuromi’s 20th anniversary, highlighted in particular by an animated series produced by Netflix in collaboration with Sanrio, *My Melody & Kuromi*, due to be broadcast from July 2025. It thus captures an elegant and festive take on the character, a departure from her usual aesthetic yet true to the kawaii spirit of the franchise.
