Origin and character background (Lore)

Yuji Itadori is a secondary school pupil with extraordinary physical strength. Whilst trying to save his classmates from an attack by a curse, he swallows one of Ryomen Sukuna’s fingers, an extremely dangerous cursed object. This act makes him the vessel for the King of Curses, who now shares his body.

Despite Sukuna’s presence within him, Yuji manages to retain control of his body. This exceptional ability attracts the attention of the exorcists, who decide to postpone his execution so that he can locate and absorb the other fragments of the curse before Sukuna can be eliminated once and for all.

Guided by Satoru Gojo, Yuji enrolsat the Tokyo Exorcism School. There, he learns to master occult energy and takes part in missions alongside Megumi Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki to protect humans from curses. The anime’s official website describes him as a first-year student capable of resisting Sukuna’s poison, who has agreed to fight the Curses to prevent unjust deaths.

Yuji stands out primarily for his physical abilities, his speed and his growing mastery of occult energy. Among his signature techniques are the Divergent Fist, whose physical impact is followed by a second burst of energy, andthe Black Lightning, a phenomenon that significantly increases the power of an attack when occult energy is channelled with extreme precision.

Deeply altruistic, Yuji wants everyone to be able to die with dignity and refuses to abandon those in danger. This conviction drives him to continue his fight despite the constant threat posed by Sukuna and the trials he faces in the world of exorcists.
