Introduced by the Japanese firm Sanrio in 2005 in the animated series Onegai My Melody, Kuromi is a little white rabbit who is portrayed as My Melody’s friendly rival. Instantly recognisable by her black jester’s hat adorned with a pink skull and her matching impish tail, she embodies a decidedly punk, tomboyish and rebellious style, contrasting with the brand’s usual sweet-natured characters. Although she can be a bit hot-headed at times, is a bit of a rascal and loves leading her gang of bikers (the Kuromi’s 5), Kuromi actually has a tender heart, is deeply sensitive and has a very romantic soul.
