Origin and character lore
Snowball is the name given to several cats belonging to the Simpson family throughout the series. These pets are mainly associated with Lisa Simpson, who is particularly fond of them.
The first Snowball is mentioned right from the start of the series, whilst various successors subsequently take on this name. This succession of cats becomes a recurring running gag in its own right, as the family continues to use the name Snowball despite the change in pets.
