Origin and background of the character
Created by manga artist Go Nagai,Mazinger Zis a major work in the history of Japanese science fiction, considered the founder of the ‘Mecha’ genre (giant robots piloted from within). The plot follows the young pilot Koji Kabuto at the controls of a combat robot built from Z-alloy, a fictional ultra-strong metal, designed to repel the mechanical assaults of the mad scientist Doctor Hell. The machine’s full arsenal, including its thrusters and flying control modules (the Pilders) which slot directly into the robot’s head, has become a global cultural icon. In Europe, this universe is closely linked to that ofUFO Robot Grendizer(known asGoldorak), a later series based on the same mythology and created by the same author.- *
