Origin and lore of the creature

The Riding Chicken is a rare combination of two Minecraft creatures: a baby zombie and a chicken. The young undead creature uses the animal as a mount, benefiting from its fast and unpredictable movements, making it a much harder opponent to hit than an ordinary zombie.

The chicken retains its usual behaviour whilst carrying its passenger. It can move quickly, jump over small obstacles and slow its fall by flapping its wings. The baby zombie, meanwhile, remains hostile towards the player and attempts to attack them as soon as they are within range.

This pairing is particularly surprising given the contrast between the two creatures. The chicken is normally one of the passive animals in the Minecraft world, whilst the zombie is a monster that mainly spawns in the dark. Their combination transforms a familiar animal into a mount for one of the game’s most agile enemies.
