Narrative context and universe (Lore)
In theOne Piece universe, Monkey D. Luffy is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates and aims to become the Pirate King. His physical abilities are enhanced by the powers of theGomu Gomu no Mi(orHito Hito no Mi, Model Nika) Devil Fruit, which gives his body the elasticity of rubber. The "Snakeman" form is a specific variation of hisGear 4, developed in combination with Haki (Fluid). Luffy uses this transformation for the first time during his battle against Sweet Commander Charlotte Katakuri on Whole Cake Island. Unlike theBoundman form,Snakemanprioritises speed and flexibility, allowing Luffy to alter the trajectory of his attacks unpredictably in order to bypass his opponents’ perception-based defences.
