Character background and lore

Tony Tony Chopper is the ship’s doctor for the Straw Hat crew in ONE PIECE. Originally just a reindeer, he acquired extraordinary abilities after eating the Hito Hito no Mi, a Devil Fruit that allows him, amongst other things, to take on human characteristics and communicate with humans.

Often mistaken for a pet due to his adorable appearance, Chopper is nevertheless a highly skilled doctor. Behind his sometimes naive and easily impressionable nature lies a courageous member of the crew who is deeply loyal to his companions.

His past is closely linked to Dr Hiluluk and Dr Kureha, two key figures in his training and his medical vocation. Following his encounter with Monkey D. Luffy, he joins his crew with the ambition of becoming a doctor capable of curing all illnesses.
