A former Vice-Admiral of the Navy with a big heart, Saul deserted his post after refusing to take part in the unjust extermination of Ohara, the island of scholars. His ship was wrecked and he washed up on the shores of that very island, where he was discovered and secretly nursed back to health by Robin, a lonely eight-year-old girl shunned by everyone because of her Hana Hana no Mi (Flower-Flower Fruit) powers. Saul becomes her only friend and teaches her his philosophy of life through his trademark laugh (“Dereshishishi”), reminding her that even in the darkest moments, no one is born into this world to end up completely alone.
