Origin and character lore

Bulbasaur is Pokémon No. 0001 in the National Pokédex and is of the Grass and Poison types. It carries a seed on its back from birth. This seed grows alongside it and provides the nutrients it needs during the early stages of its development.

It is one of the three starter Pokémon available in the Kanto region, alongside Charmander and Squirtle. Bulbasaur first evolves into Ivysaur, then into Venusaur. Its appearance, which combines animal and plant characteristics, as well as its status as the very first Pokémon listed in the Pokédex, have made it a particularly recognisable creature within the franchise.
