Character background and lore
Marin Kitagawa is the main heroine of My Dress-Up Darling. A high school student who is very popular in her class, she also works as an amateur model and stands out for her extremely open, cheerful and spontaneous personality. The anime’s official website describes her as a radiant, carefree young girl who is usually at the centre of her group of friends.
Behind this very sociable image lies, above all, a great passion for anime, manga, video games and cosplay. Marin dreams of bringing the characters she adores to life, even though she initially lacks the skills needed to make her own costumes properly.
Her meeting with Wakana Gojo then proves to be a turning point. Gojo is a reserved secondary school pupil who dreams of becoming a craftsman specialising in making hina dolls and has already mastered numerous sewing techniques thanks to this passion.
When she discovers his talents, Marin asks him to help her create her costumes. This collaboration on cosplay quickly becomes the starting point for an increasingly close relationship between the two teenagers.
Marin also stands out for her non-judgemental attitude towards other people’s passions. Whilst Gojo has long struggled to come to terms with his interest in hina dolls, she, on the contrary, believes it is natural to devote time and energy to what one truly loves.
As their projects progress, cosplay thus becomes much more than just a hobby. It allows Marin and Gojo to meet other enthusiasts, experiment with new techniques and, above all, gradually discover facets of themselves that they hadn’t necessarily dared to express before. The series’ official synopsis specifically highlights how their world expands through cosplay and the encounters it brings.
This ‘Cheering!’ version captures one of Marin’s key characteristics particularly well: her almost infectious enthusiasm. Rather than depicting her in a specific cosplay outfit, the figurine directly highlights her energy, her smile and her outgoing personality.
