Character background and universe (Lore)

Marin Kitagawa is one of the two central characters in My Dress-Up Darling. A first-year sixth-form student, she is described as a popular girl in her class who also works as a model for magazines. Very sociable, spontaneous and without ulterior motives, she is passionate about anime, video games and manga, and dreams above all of taking up cosplay.

Her path crosses that of Wakana Gojo, a reserved classmate who wishes to become a craftsman specialising in making the faces of hina dolls. Whilst their personalities and interests initially seem to set them apart, Wakana’s sewing skills enable Marin to bring her cosplay projects to life. Their collaboration gradually becomes the heart of the story.

Through their costume creations and encounters with other enthusiasts, Marin and Wakana gradually discover new aspects of the world of cosplay whilst developing an increasingly close relationship. Marin’s enthusiasm for her favourite characters and her determination to fully embrace her passions are thus two of the key traits reflected in the numerous merchandise items dedicated to the character.
