Origin and background of the character
Released in 2001, the DreamWorks animated film Shrek completely subverted and parodied the traditional conventions of fairy tales. Shrek is a solitary, cynical and fiercely territorial ogre who sees the tranquillity of his beloved swamp disrupted by an invasion of magical creatures exiled by the cruel Lord Farquaad. To reclaim his title to the land, he agrees to set out to rescue Princess Fiona, held captive in a tower guarded by a fearsome dragon. This exclusive figurine is directly inspired by a funny and romantic moment in the film shared with Fiona: Shrek is depicted with a broad smile on his face, holding an improvised balloon that he has inflated himself using an inflatable snake from the forest. It is an essential piece for showcasing all the sensitivity and offbeat humour of this cult franchise.
