Character background and lore

Mario is the main hero of the Super Mario franchise. Recognisable by his red cap, moustache and blue overalls, he regularly travels across the Mushroom Kingdom to protect Princess Peach and thwart Bowser’s plans.

During his adventures, Mario traverses a wide variety of environments, uses numerous power-ups and battles the creatures in the service of the Koopa King. He is often accompanied by his brother Luigi, Yoshi and Toad, but also takes part in races, sporting competitions and parties bringing together the various characters from the Nintendo universe.

Several games have featured Mario in a childlike form, generally known as Baby Mario. This version retains the cap, colours and main features of the adult hero, whilst adopting a smaller build and a rounder face. He appears alongside Baby Luigi and Yoshi in various adventures.
