Origin and character background (Lore)

Roy Koopa is one of the seven Koopalings, alongside Larry, Morton, Wendy, Iggy, Lemmy and Ludwig. These leaders of the Koopa Troop work for Bowser and regularly stand in Mario’s way when he attempts to thwart the Koopa King’s plans.

Roy stands out from his companions due to his imposing build and his reliance on brute force. His pink glasses, distinctive head and purple shell make him easily recognisable. He first appears alongside the other Koopalings in *Super Mario Bros. 3*, where each commands a section of Bowser’s forces and defends one of the invaded kingdoms.

Over the course of the series, Roy has returned as an opponent in various instalments, but also as a playable character in certain spin-off titles. His power and massive build generally make him a heavyweight fighter, capable of unleashing particularly powerful attacks.
