Origin and character background (Lore)

Lotso appears in Toy Story 3 as a large pink teddy bear with a purple nose, originally designed to smell of strawberries. When Woody, Buzz and their friends arrive at Sunnyside Nursery, he initially presents himself as a caring manager who warmly welcomes the new toys.

However, this façade conceals an authoritarian leader who controls the nursery with the help of his henchmen. Lotso was deeply scarred by his accidental abandonment and then by the discovery that another version of the same soft toy had replaced him with his owner, Daisy. Convinced that toys are always eventually cast aside, he has since imposed a cynical and brutal outlook on the residents of Sunnyside.

His gentle appearance, his strawberry scent and his menacing behaviour thus create a central contrast within the character. This piggy bank captures this duality precisely, retaining the bear’s soft, velvety appearance whilst reproducing his stern expression and his iconic cane.
