The Lord Of The Rings

The books telling the story of Frodo the Hobbit's quest were a worldwide success throughout the second half of the 20th century, even finding their way into theatres with film adaptations between 2001 and 2003. The three big budget films will also be warmly received by the saga fan.

About the books

After the great success of Tolkien's live-action "The Hobbit", the author decided to explore this universe further and began writing what would later become The Lord of the Rings. In 1937, at the request of his publisher, Tolkien began writing the book. It took him twelve years to complete the sequel, which he interspersed with references and allusions to the Slimarillion world, another project he had been working on since 1917.

For the record, Tolkien's plan was to publish The Lord of the Rings in a single book. Unfortunately, the high cost of paper in the post-war period forced him to divide his work into three volumes, each divided into two volumes: "The Fellowship of the Ring" / "The Fellowship of the Ring", "The Two Towers" and "The Return of the King".

To make this imaginary world more believable, Tolkien gave his imaginary creatures their own language. The best known and most developed with a dictionary and grammar is Quenya, one of the Elvish languages, written in a specific alphabet known as Tengwar. Furthermore, Tolkien places our contemporary world in a seventh age, which reinforces the historical aspect. His world belongs in some way to prehistoric times. His initial project was to explore time travel.

The main plot

The Lord of the Rings is a novel written by the author J. R. R. Tolkien, the adventures of Frodo were published in three volumes in 1954 and 1955. Tolkien's fictional world brings together men, hobbits, small men, elves, mages and what he calls orcs, monstrous creatures making up an army led by a powerful mage serving the purpose of our heroes' enemy: Sauron.

The Lord of the Rings is therefore a story of quest. Bilbo's nephew, Frodo, must destroy the ring that his uncle found by chance. This ring is actually the Lord of the Rings, a magical ring, forged by Sauron. Whoever possesses the ring can rule the world, as it bestows immense power on its holder. If Sauron finds it, evil will prevail and the world will be plunged into darkness. The only solution is to destroy the ring by melting it in the fire where it was forged: in the Evil One's lair.

The Story

The story takes place in the land of Middle Earth, where the hobbit Frodo Baggins is given the task of destroying a ring. It is the One Ring, with incredible properties, giving great power to its wearer. Frodo must destroy it to prevent Sauron, the dark lord, from taking it with the help of his army of orcs.

To accomplish this mission, Frodo will be helped by several protagonists, including his faithful friend and gardener Sam, the hobbits Meriadoc and Peregrin, the mage Gandalf, the efle Legolas and the human Aragorn, heir to the crown.

Pursued by orcs and spied upon by a creature called Golum, obsessed with the ring, Frodo will risk his life to try to carry out this noble task to save Middle-earth and the rest of the world.
