What is a board game?

Of course, there are lots of varieties of board games. Their representation of real-life situations can vary depending on the presence of an intrinsic theme or narrative elements. Board games in history
Board games have been played in all civilizations. They have travelled and also evolved. Many historical sites, artefacts or documents have shed light on the first board games. We can mention the board games of the Jiroft civilization in Iran. Senet is also a game that has been found to date back to prehistoric Egypt and the First Egyptian Dynasty (between 3500 and 3100 BC). It is the oldest known board game. The Dog and Jackal game is another game that has been found in Egypt. Traces of it are found in 2000 BC. The first complete game of this type was found in a tomb at Thebes dating from the 13th Dynasty. It was also famous in Mesopotamia and the Caucasus.
Backgammon originated in ancient Mesopotamia about 5000 years ago. Asthapada, chess, Pachisi and Chaupar originated in India. Go and Liubo originated in China. Patolli originated in Mesoamerica and was played by the ancient Aztecs. The Royal Game of Ur was found in the Royal Tombs of Ur and dates back to Mesopotamian times, 4600 years ago.

The late 1990s saw a significant growth in the board game market. This was attributed to the internet which made it much easier to find games. Players were also able to find people to play against more easily. This coincided with the increase in the amount of time the world's population spent on entertainment of all kinds. Around the year 2000, the board game industry started to produce many new board games. The audience continued to grow globally. In the 2010s, many publications were even talking about a new golden age of board games or even a renaissance. Numerous board game venues have also sprung up. In 2016, there were no less than 5,000 Board Game Cafés opened in the USA. These places are also very popular in China.
