Origin and world of the character
Dunk (Ser Duncan the Great) is the central protagonist of the fantasy story series The Chronicles of the Knight Errant (Tales of Dunk and Egg), written by George R.R. Martin and set in the same universe as Game of Thrones ninety years before the events of the main saga. The story follows the adventures of a young man of humble origins from the slums of King's Landing who, on the death of his master, decides to don his worn-out armour and travel the continent of Westeros as a knight errant to defend honour and justice. During his travels, he takes under his protection a daring young squire nicknamed The Egg, who turns out to be Prince Aegon Targaryen, future ruler of the Seven Crowns. The work depicts their brotherly relationship and their rigorous confrontation with the political and martial realities of the kingdom.
