This previously unpublished novel is a fully-fledged adventure in the A Plague Tale universe.

Set chronologically between the events of A Plague Tale: Innocence and A Plague Tale: Requiem, A Plague Tale: Tenebris follows the misadventures of Amicia and Hugo, as well as their mother Beatrice and their friend Lucas, as they face new antagonists.

1348. A few days after their battle with the Grand Inquisitor Vitalis, Amicia and Hugo learn that they are wanted and head east, away from the weakened English troops and a vengeful Inquisition. Secretly on their trail are the Flagellants, led by a zealot determined to make Hugo the Christ-like martyr who will accompany their processions, "splattering sinful humanity with the sacred blood of his wounds". The group's itinerant routine is soon disrupted by the awakening of the Macula, which afflicts Hugo with terrible headaches and nightmares. Beatrice and Lucas are categorical: Hugo's nightmares, exalted by the Macula, are beginning to alter the reality around him (contagious emotions, confusion of the senses, hallucinations, panicked rats that escape the boy's call). As the days pass, Hugo's symptoms intensify, endangering both his mental health and the lives of his companions.
