The character of Asta is the central protagonist of the manga Black Clover, written and drawn by Yūki Tabata, and its adaptation into an animated TV series produced by the Pierrot studio from 2017. The plot takes place in a medieval fantasy world where magic is omnipresent and determines everyone's social status. An orphan who grew up in the Church of Hage, Asta has the unique distinction of having been born without any magical powers. To compensate for this weakness and pursue his dream of becoming the next Emperor-Mage, he undergoes intensive physical training and obtains a mysterious grimoire with a five-leaf clover that enables him to wield anti-magic swords. Nero, the mockingbird that follows him around all the time, turns out to be much more than just a pet and hides a secret linked to the origins of the kingdom of Clover. Together, they join the Company of Black Bulls to defend their world against threats from within and without.
