Background and character lore

Black Clover is set in a world where magic plays a central role. Asta and Yuno, two orphans raised together, share the same goal: to become the next Mage Emperor of the Kingdom of Clover. Yuno possesses immense magical talent, whilst Asta was born without any supernatural ability whatsoever. However, he makes up for this weakness with exceptional determination and a mysterious five-leaf grimoire that grants him anti-magic powers.

Asta joins the Black Bull Guild led by Yami Sukehiro. There, he fights alongside Noelle, Charmy, Luck and Gauche, Mage Knights with very different personalities and powers. Nero, a small, enigmatic bird often seen with Asta, also conceals a crucial identity and role in the story.

The series also features several captains of prestigious companies. Fuegoleon leads the Blazing Lions, Nozel commands the Silver Eagles and Charlotte heads the Blue Rose. They all play a part in defending the kingdom against enemy mages, demons and the many threats that test the bonds between the different companies.
