CHARACTER BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT
Introduced in 2018 in the drama seriesCobra Kai, Miguel Diaz is a teenager of Ecuadorian origin living in Reseda, California. He becomes Johnny Lawrence’s very first student when Lawrence decides to reopen the historic Cobra Kai dojo. Initially a target of bullying at school, Miguel develops great mastery of martial arts, becoming the champion of the All Valley karate tournament. His development throughout the series explores the duality between the aggressive teachings of the original Cobra Kai and the search for a more balanced fighting ethic, making him one of the central protagonists of the franchise’s new generation.
