Character background and universe (Lore)

David Martinez is the main protagonist of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an animated series produced by Studio Trigger and set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe.

A young student living in the working-class neighbourhoods of Night City, David initially tries to follow the path his mother had mapped out for him. Following a tragic event that turns his life upside down, he gradually enters the world of the edgerunners – mercenaries living on the fringes of society and undertaking dangerous missions to survive.

David quickly makes a name for himself thanks to a powerful military implant, the Sandevistan, which allows him to significantly speed up his reflexes and movements. As he accumulates more cybernetic augmentations, his power increases, but so do the risks to his body and his mental stability.

His relationship with Lucy is one of the series’ key emotional threads. Caught between ambition, survival and the desire to escape Night City, David perfectly embodies the central themes of the Cyberpunk universe: the quest for freedom, the price of power, and the consequences of a society dominated by megacorporations and technology.
