Character background and lore

Momo Ayase is one of the two central protagonists of Dandadan. Born into a family with links to the world of spiritual mediums, she grew up surrounded by the supernatural under the influence of her grandmother, Seiko Ayase, herself a spiritual medium.

Her adventure really begins when she meets Ken Takakura, whom she nicknames Okarun. Momo believes in ghosts but is sceptical about aliens, whilst Okarun holds exactly the opposite view. Their challenge to prove who is right soon brings them face to face with both phenomena at once.

In the course of these events, Momo develops powerful psychokinetic abilities, enabling her, in particular, to grasp or manipulate people and entities from a distance. She thus becomes one of the group’s mainstays during battles against yokai, spirits and extraterrestrial visitors.

Momo also stands out for her fiery temperament, her courage and her devotion to her loved ones. Her energetic personality and her relationship with Okarun form an essential part of Dandadan’s identity.
