Origin and character background
Inarius is a central and legendary character in Blizzard Entertainment’s action role-playing game series, playing a crucial role in the plot of Diablo IV. A former archangel of the High Council of Angels, he rebelled against the Eternal Conflict between Heaven and Hell. By secretly allying himself with the demon Lilith, daughter of Mephisto, he stole the Worldstone to create Sanctuary, a hidden haven of peace where angels and renegade demons could live safe from the fighting. From their union was born the race of Nephalems, the ancestors of humanity endowed with powerful abilities. However, this alliance fell apart, leading to Inarius’s banishment to Hell, where he would suffer immense torment. In Diablo IV, freed from his chains, Inarius seeks to reclaim his rightful place in Heaven by attempting to destroy Lilith, plunging the world of Sanctuary once more into chaos and war.
