Character background and lore

Ariel is the youngest daughter of King Triton, ruler of the underwater kingdom of Atlantica. Curious and independent, she is fascinated by the human world and collects objects from the surface that she discovers during her explorations in a secret cave.

Despite her father’s warnings and the advice of her friend Polochon, Ariel dreams of leaving the ocean. When she rescues Prince Eric after a shipwreck, she falls in love with him and longs more than ever to live amongst humans.

The sea witch Ursula then offers her a deal: Ariel will be given human legs for three days in exchange for her voice. To keep this form permanently, she must receive a true kiss of love before sunset on the third day.

With the help of Polochon, Sebastian and the seagull Eureka, Ariel tries to win Eric’s heart whilst thwarting Ursula’s schemes. Her courage and determination ultimately enable her to bring the human world and the world of the ocean’s inhabitants closer together.
