Character background and lore

Cinderella is a kind and generous young woman who lives under the authority of her stepmother, Lady Tremaine, and her two stepsisters, Javotte and Anastasia. Following her father’s death, she is treated like a servant and must carry out the many household chores on her own.

Despite the humiliations and hardships, Cinderella remains optimistic and can count on the friendship of the animals around her, particularly the mice Jaq and Gus. When a grand ball is organised at the palace, her stepmother tries to prevent her from attending by destroying the dress she had prepared with the help of her friends.

Her fairy godmother then intervenes and transforms her clothes into a sumptuous ball gown. A pumpkin becomes a carriage and the animals are turned into horses and servants. However, the magic must come to an end at the twelfth stroke of midnight.

At the ball, Cinderella meets the prince and dances with him without immediately realising who he is. When she flees before midnight, she leaves behind a glass slipper. The prince uses this slipper to track down the mysterious young woman and eventually enables Cinderella to leave Lady Tremaine’s house to begin a new life at the palace.
