This magnificent relief display is directly inspired by the very first narrative arc of Dragon Ball, the timeless masterpiece created by legendary manga artist Akira Toriyama. Just as the fearsome Emperor Pilaf is about to use Earth’s seven Dragon Balls to make his wish for world domination before the gigantic, divine dragon Shenron, the small shape-shifting mouse Oolong overcomes his legendary cowardice. Risking his life, he interrupts the tyrant at the last moment to make a completely absurd and zany request (to obtain a pair of knickers), thereby catching the sacred dragon off guard and saving the world from a terrible dictatorship.

This figurine, of great symbolic value, perfectly captures the duality between the epic magic and the schoolboy humour characteristic of that era. The sculpture meticulously highlights Shenron’s sinuous silhouette, coiled around rocky elements reminiscent of giant mushrooms, with his detailed green scales, antler-like horns and piercing red eyes. At his feet, the small anthropomorphic pig Oolong is depicted in traditional attire, frozen in a posture of surprise, panic and absolute ecstasy in the face of the immensity of the spiritual entity he has just tricked.
