Character background and universe (Lore)

Frieza is one of the most iconic antagonists in the Dragon Ball universe. A galactic tyrant at the head of a vast army, he conquers planets and eliminates peoples who might threaten his power.

He plays a particularly pivotal role in the history of the Saiyans. Fearing their potential and the possibility that the legendary Super Saiyan might one day emerge, Frieza decides to destroy their home planet, Vegeta, causing the near-total extinction of their people.

During the Namek Saga in Dragon Ball Z, Frieza travels to the planet to gather the Dragon Balls and gain immortality. He faces, in turn, Vegeta, Piccolo, Gohan, Krillin and, finally, Son Goku.

After Krillin’s death before Goku’s very eyes, Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan for the first time, turning the tide of the battle. Faced with his opponent’s growing power, Frieza then decides to gradually unleash his full strength.

His Full Power form is when he utilises 100 per cent of his maximum power. His musculature increases considerably and his strength reaches its peak, but this transformation also has a major weakness: it consumes an enormous amount of energy and cannot be sustained effectively over a long period.

The duel between Super Saiyan Goku and Full Power Frieza on the rapidly crumbling planet Namek has become one of the most famous battles in the entire Dragon Ball franchise.
