Character background and universe (Lore)

Asuka Shikinami Langley is one of the central characters in the Rebuild of Evangelion film tetralogy. A particularly talented and self-assured Evangelion pilot, she is primarily associated with Evangelion Unit-02. Her assertive, competitive and often provocative nature contrasts with the more reserved personality of Shinji Ikari, with whom she has a complex relationship throughout the story.

The Shikinami version is the Rebuild films’ own interpretation of the character, differing in several respects from the Asuka Langley Soryu of the original television series. Her appearance and role evolve across the various films, particularly following the upheavals that separate the early events of the saga from its second half.

Her jersey outfit, associated with this later period of *Rebuild of Evangelion*, has become one of her most recognisable looks. Here, it offers a more casual alternative to her iconic red plugsuit, whilst retaining the visual elements that make Asuka instantly recognisable.
