Origin and background of the player

Virgil van Dijk, born in 1991, is a Dutch international footballer who plays as a central defender. After making his name at Celtic FC and then Southampton, he joined English club Liverpool FC in January 2018. Under coach Jürgen Klopp, he established himself as one of the pillars of the Reds' squad, with whom he won the UEFA Champions League in 2019 and the English Premier League in 2020. Subsequently appointed captain of the team, his individual performances earned him the award for one of the best defenders of his generation and second place in the Ballon d'Or in 2019. This figurine commemorates his iconic presence in the colours of the Mersey club.
