Origin and character background (Lore)

Frieren is an elven mage who was once part of the group of heroes who defeated the Demon King after a ten-year quest.

For Frieren, whose life expectancy is measured in centuries, these ten years represent only a brief moment, however. After the victory, she parted ways with her companions Himmel, Heiter and Eisen and set off on her own travels, without truly realising the significance of the time spent in their company.

Decades later, when she is reunited with her former companions, Frieren gradually comes to realise a truth she had previously overlooked: human life is extremely short compared to her own.

In particular, the death of Himmel, the group’s hero, proves to be a real turning point. Frieren regrets not having tried harder to understand him whilst he was still alive.

She therefore sets out on a new journey to learn more about humans, their emotions and the memories that give meaning to an existence that is, after all, fleeting.

During this new adventure, she travels with Fern, a young mage whom she takes on as her apprentice, as well as Stark, a warrior trained by Eisen.

Frieren possesses a vast wealth of magical experience accumulated over several centuries. She is particularly distinguished by her exceptional knowledge of spells and her ability to analyse and conceal her magical energy.

Despite this power, her demeanour often remains very detached. She may devote a great deal of time to researching utterly useless spells or forget that a few years represent a considerable period of time for her human companions.
