Origin and world of the character
Ghost is a Swedish heavy metal and theatrical rock band founded in 2006 by singer Tobias Forge. The band's visual identity is based on ecclesiastical satire, with anonymous instrumentalists (the Nameless Ghouls) surrounding a lead singer who plays a succession of satanic false pontiffs known as Papa Emeritus (or Cardinal Copia). The band regularly changes the costume and incarnation of its figurehead over the course of albums and tours. The figure shown here is dressed in black, clerical-inspired finery adorned with bat wings, a reminder of the baroque, occult and macabre visual universe the band deploys in their live performances.- *
