Character background and universe (Lore)

Nero is a Nikke attached to the Happy Zoo squad, the Ark unit specialising in the care and protection of animals.

She is particularly notable for her connection with cats. Nero is responsible for looking after the cats taken in by Happy Zoo and possesses an astonishing ability to understand their behaviour and communicate with them. Both her appearance and her personality, in fact, feature many feline traits.

Nero is produced by Tetra Line and uses a submachine gun called Meow Meow in combat. Despite her gentle appearance and generally calm demeanour, she is not particularly shy and can be very determined when an animal under her protection is threatened.

Like the other members of Happy Zoo, her mission is not limited to fighting the Raptures. The squad also steps in to rescue and protect abandoned or abused animals living in the Ark.

The world of GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE is set in a future where humanity has been driven from the Earth’s surface by the Raptures, powerful hostile machines. The last survivors have taken refuge underground in a gigantic city called the Ark and are using the Nikkes – artificial combatants – in an attempt to reclaim the surface.

Nero brings a much more everyday aspect to this world, which is usually defined by war and survival. Her affection for animals shows that, even in the particularly harsh environment of the Ark, some Nikkes also devote their lives to protecting the most vulnerable forms of life.
