Origin and backstory of the character
First appearing on the big screen in 1954 under the direction of Ishirō Honda for Toho Studios, Godzilla (Gojira) is an atomic allegory that has become the ultimate icon of Japanese pop culture and the undisputed king of kaiju films. Awakened and mutated by underwater nuclear tests, this titanic prehistoric reptile embodies nature’s wrath in the face of humanity’s technological excesses. This unique artistic interpretation, entitled “Retro Futurism”, pays a vibrant tribute to vintage science-fiction illustrations from the golden age, blending the atomic aesthetic of the 1950s with the futuristic visions of yesteryear. Funko immortalises this legendary monster with its iconic dorsal plates and alpha predator stance, offering a bold and stylised design that is a must-have for all fans of fantasy, genre cinema and rare collectables.
