GUNDAM - The Origin - Tome 1

Destined to leave Earth to colonise space, mankind has finally fulfilled its dream, and built gigantic colonies floating in the interstellar void. These cylinders, several kilometres long, artificially recreate living conditions on Earth, and have become the second home of the colonists who live there. The story changes on the day when, determined to become independent, the Duchy of Zeon - the furthest colony from Earth - declares war on the federal forces of Earth.

Within a month, half the combatants on each side were dead, leaving the civilian population in disarray.
