Origin and world of the character
Hello Kitty (full name Kitty White) is a fictional character created in 1974 by designer Yuko Shimizu for the Japanese company Sanrio. Depicted as a small anthropomorphic white cat with a red ribbon on her left ear, she has become a major figure in popular culture around the world and the emblem of the "kawaii" (cute) aesthetic trend. Initially appearing on small stationery and leather goods, the Hello Kitty universe was later extended to animated series, theme parks and a host of derivative products worldwide. This figurine commemorates fifty years of existence and commercial history of the franchise since its initial creation in the 1970s.
