Origin and character lore

The Sanrio universe brings together numerous characters associated with friendship, kindness and those little moments of everyday happiness. Hello Kitty, My Melody, Cinnamoroll and Kuromi are among the most popular representatives of this gallery of kawaii characters.

Hello Kitty, whose full name is Kitty White, lives with her family near London. Recognisable by the bow near her left ear, she loves baking biscuits, travelling and making new friends. She embodies the positive and caring values traditionally associated with Sanrio.

Cinnamoroll is a little white puppy born in the sky. His long ears allow him to fly, and his curled tail resembles a cinnamon roll. Shy but friendly, he has become the mascot of Café Cinnamon.

My Melody is a little rabbit from the Mariland Forest. She usually wears a hood made for her by her grandmother and is particularly fond of baking. Her sincere and caring nature makes her one of Hello Kitty’s closest friends.

Kuromi has a more mischievous personality. She wears a black headdress adorned with a pink skull and likes to put on a rebellious front, even though she hides a sensitive and romantic nature. She is often portrayed as My Melody’s rival, but their stories are based more on comical rivalry than on genuine hostility.
